KUALA LUMPUR, 9 July 2026 – AirAsia Group has officially entered a new era. The aviation giant has successfully completed its corporate transition and name change from AirAsia X Berhad to AirAsia Group Berhad.

The rebranding follows overwhelming shareholder approval during the Company’s 19th Annual General Meeting on June 25, 2026, and formal registration with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM).

The Vision: The World's First Low-Cost Network Carrier

More than a simple change of name, this rebranding marks a monumental consolidation of AirAsia's short- and medium-haul airlines under a single, unified group.

By bringing these operations together, AirAsia Group Berhad aims to pioneer a new aviation model: the world's first low-cost network carrier. This hybrid strategy combines the operational cost discipline, agility, and affordability of a low-cost carrier (LCC) with the expansive hub-and-spoke connectivity of a traditional legacy network airline.

Key Benefits of the Integration:

  • Seamless Guest Journeys: Passengers can expect more streamlined transfer connections across regional short-haul and international medium-haul routes.

  • Operational Synergy: Better fleet optimization, shared resources, and improved efficiency across all AirAsia-branded hubs in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia.

  • Unlocking New Growth Markets: Utilizing a larger consolidated fleet to scale up routes sustainably as global travel demand increasingly shifts toward Asia and the ASEAN region.

Leadership Perspective

Reflecting on the milestone, Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, Independent Non-Executive Chairman of AirAsia Group Berhad, highlighted that this shift is a defining moment for the brand:

"The approval of the name change by our shareholders reflects their confidence in our vision and the strategic direction we are taking as a unified airline group. This important step represents more than a corporate exercise. It marks a defining milestone in our ambition to become the world's first low-cost network carrier, leveraging the synergies and full potential of our short- and medium-haul network."

He added that the company is entering this next chapter from a position of immense strength. Guided by its signature entrepreneurial spirit, disciplined execution, and the hard work of its "Allstars" (AirAsia employees), the group remains highly confident in its ability to drive long-term value for shareholders while keeping air travel widely accessible.
