KUALA LUMPUR, August 17, 2026 — Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) announced today that it has successfully completed a mandatory drug screening exercise for all operationally active Malaysia Airlines pilots, with every test returning negative. According to an official press release issued by the company's media centre, the screening met its targeted completion deadline of August 15 as part of enhanced safety and fitness-for-duty measures across its fleet. The group stated that it will now transition into the next phase of the program, which involves screening approximately 2,840 Malaysia Airlines cabin crew members between August 18 and September 3.

Sister carrier Firefly is also progressing with similar screenings for its 158 pilots and 163 cabin crew members. MAG reported that more than half of Firefly's operational crew has already been tested—with all results returning negative—and full completion is expected by August 25, well ahead of the September 5 deadline mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
