The 19th Elephant and Tourism Festival was celebrated in Chitwan on Thursday with vibrant rallies, cultural performances, and interactive events featuring elephants, highlighting the region’s commitment to wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism.
Participants, including Nepalese women dressed in traditional attire, took part in colorful processions aimed at strengthening the bond between humans and elephants. The festival also showcased entertaining activities such as elephant football, drawing large crowds of local residents and tourists.
Organizers said the annual event seeks to raise awareness about elephant protection, promote ethical wildlife practices, and boost tourism in Chitwan, home to the UNESCO-listed Chitwan National Park. The festival has become a key attraction for both domestic and international visitors, contributing to the local economy while reinforcing conservation messages.
