DUBLIN- In recent legal developments, Ryanair has agreed to pay combined damages approaching €25,000 to settle two separate personal injury claims brought by passengers in the Dublin Circuit Civil Court.
The first case involved Eoin Long, a young boy who was six years old at the time of the incident, who was accidentally scalded by hot tea during a flight from Athens to Dublin. The mishap occurred while a flight attendant was serving tea to the boy's father, causing the boiling liquid to spill onto the child's right arm and right thigh. Fortunately, immediate medical assistance was provided mid-flight by a crew member and a nurse seated nearby, ensuring the injuries healed without permanent scarring. The court approved a settlement offer of €12,000 for the painful ordeal.
The second settlement involved Kryzysztof Matkowski, a 40-year-old driver from County Clare, who filed a €60,000 damages claim after suffering a soft tissue injury to his left knee. Matkowski alleged that a sales trolley collided with his knee on a pre-Christmas flight from Shannon to Wroclaw, Poland, causing ongoing pain that interfered with his driving. His case was settled outside the Circuit Court for an undisclosed sum under the €15,000 threshold of the District Court's jurisdiction.
