February 26, 2026 — The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has officially opened nominations for its 2026 Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Awards, calling on the global aviation community to recognize individuals and airlines driving meaningful change across the industry.

The announcement reinforces IATA’s continued push to build a more inclusive, balanced, and representative aviation workforce at a time when the sector faces talent shortages and rapid transformation.

Awards to Be Presented at IATA AGM 2026

The winners will be announced during the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit (WATS), scheduled to take place in June 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The AGM is one of the most influential gatherings of global airline CEOs and aviation leaders.

Nominations for the awards are open until April 5, 2026.

Three Award Categories

The 2026 Diversity & Inclusion Awards will recognize excellence in three key categories:

Inspirational Role Model Award – Honoring a senior female aviation leader who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and influence in advancing diversity and inclusion.

High Flyer Award – Recognizing a female aviation professional under the age of 40 who has made a significant impact through inclusive initiatives.

Diversity & Inclusion Team Award – Awarded to an airline that has delivered measurable progress in building a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Each award carries a US $25,000 prize, sponsored by Qatar Airways. Recipients may choose to donate the prize money to a diversity-focused charity or initiative.

Industry Commitment to Inclusion

IATA has consistently emphasized that diversity is not only a social responsibility but also a business imperative. Programs such as the association’s 25by2025 initiative have encouraged airlines worldwide to increase female representation in senior roles and technical professions.

Aviation remains traditionally male-dominated in areas such as piloting, engineering, and executive leadership. By highlighting role models and best practices, IATA aims to accelerate progress and inspire systemic change across global carriers.

Why It Matters for Aviation

As airlines expand operations, modernize fleets, and embrace digital transformation, attracting and retaining diverse talent has become critical for long-term resilience. A more inclusive workforce enhances decision-making, strengthens corporate culture, and improves customer engagement in an increasingly global marketplace.

The 2026 D&I Awards are expected to once again spotlight industry pioneers who are reshaping aviation’s leadership landscape and creating pathways for future generations.

With global competition for skilled aviation professionals intensifying, diversity and inclusion are emerging as strategic priorities rather than optional initiatives. IATA’s continued recognition of industry leaders signals that workforce equity will remain central to aviation’s sustainable growth agenda.
