Twenty Thai sailors have returned home after their vessel was attacked near the strategic shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz, while three crew members remain missing, Thai authorities say.

The sailors were among 23 crew members on board the Thai-flagged cargo ship Mayuree Naree when it was reportedly struck by projectiles in the Gulf region last week.

Officials said the attack caused a fire on the vessel, forcing the crew to abandon ship using lifeboats. Twenty crew members were later rescued at sea by naval forces from Oman.

They were subsequently flown back to Bangkok, where families and officials were waiting to receive them.

However, three sailors remain unaccounted for. Authorities say search and rescue operations are continuing in the area.

The incident highlights growing concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, through which a significant portion of global energy supplies passes.

Thai officials say they are working with regional partners to locate the missing crew members and determine the circumstances behind the attack.
