KATHMANDU, Nepal — January 2, 2026 — A Buddha Air aircraft skidded off the runway at Bhadrapur Airport in Jhapa on Friday, officials confirmed.
According to Jhapa Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal, the incident occurred when the aircraft veered off the runway during landing. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) spokesperson Gyanendra Bhul stated that the aircraft, an ATR 72 with call sign 9N‑AMF, was operating a Kathmandu–Bhadrapur flight at the time.
The plane was carrying 51 passengers and crew, all of whom have been reported safe. Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries.
Airport and airline teams are on site to manage the situation, and a technical and relief team from Kathmandu is being dispatched to assist with aircraft recovery and further inspection.
Investigations into the cause of the runway excursion are underway, and authorities have assured passengers that safety remains their top priority.
