Ahmedabad – February 12, 2026: Air India has reportedly offered substantial compensation to families of victims of the June 12, 2025, Ahmedabad-to-London flight AI-171 crash in exchange for relinquishing future legal claims.

According to The Independent, the airline proposed an additional ₹1 million per family, with some cases reportedly reaching ₹2 million. Families would have to agree not to pursue any future claims related to the crash and absolve the airline of all legal liability—a provision reportedly applicable across all jurisdictions.

The offer has been met with strong opposition from the legal teams representing 130 affected families. Lawyers argue that it is inappropriate to waive the right to file claims while investigations remain incomplete, especially as some injured families continue to receive medical treatment.

Air India spokesperson emphasized the airline’s commitment to assisting all affected families. They stated that the initial disbursement is part of ensuring that the final compensation is fair and legally compliant for each family.

The crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, when flight AI-171 struck a building near a medical hostel. The accident claimed 270 lives, including 241 passengers and crew. Only one passenger survived. Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 indicated the aircraft’s final signal was received at 190 meters (625 feet) shortly after departure.

Meanwhile, India’s Supreme Court directed the central government on February 11 to submit a “procedural protocol” report regarding the crash investigation. Authorities state that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is in the final stages of its inquiry.
