Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) has fined the budget carrier Tigerair Taiwan NT$150,000 (approximately US$4,700) following a security blunder where a passenger mistakenly boarded a flight to Osaka instead of Tokyo. The incident occurred at Kaohsiung International Airport when a traveler holding a ticket for flight IT280 to Tokyo’s Narita Airport managed to pass through the boarding gate and onto flight IT284, which was bound for Osaka. Ground staff initially missed the identity verification error, but cabin crew discovered the mistake shortly after boarding. The passenger was safely escorted off the aircraft before departure, and Tigerair voluntarily reported the mix-up to the aviation authority.

Following a thorough investigation concluded in its latest regulatory report, the CAA ruled that Tigerair’s gate staff failed to properly verify the passenger's boarding documents and identity, directly violating civil aviation security protocols. Alongside the monetary penalty, the regulator ordered Tigerair to submit a formal review of the incident detailing the corrective measures implemented to tighten boarding gate security. In response, Tigerair accepted the CAA’s decision and confirmed that all necessary safety improvements have already been successfully completed to ensure such a lapse does not happen again.
